2013 in review
Happy New Year to all my new readers! Thanks for stopping by.
This is my first blog on my new website so I thought I would start by summarising the events of last year as it was a pretty big year for me as you will see!
2013 kicked off with my first ever trip to Nashville, Tennessee, experiencing the most fantastic live music on Broadway and pottering about soaking up the vibe. On returning to the UK, I was so fortunate to be asked to join The Jim Stapley Band, recording an amazing album at Dean Street Studios with some very talented musicians. I'm really proud of the album which is due for release in early 2014. I've always been a huge fan of Jim's and I'm so pleased to be on board.
It was through this project that I met master producer Tony Visconti. Some months later I was overwhelmed to have been invited by Tony to record on a new project. I would be recording with a stellar lineup of musicians which included Steve Ferrone (drums), Gail Ann Dorsey (bass) and Henry Hey (keys). It was a dream come true and I cannot wait to share more about the project very soon.
Last year also saw me working with the great Kiwi singer/songwriter Katie Raven (Far South Records), recording and showcasing her music live. We also completed some tracking at Stephen Street's studio 'The Bunker' which was a blast. I’m looking forward to big things happening for Katie in 2014.
My monthly songwriter showcase 'In the Round' (at the Forge in Camden) ran throughout the year too. The night featured some amazing acts including Jon Green (The Bonfires), Tricia McTeague and Laurence Fox. The night will return again early this year which I’m really excited about.
… and I still managed to squeeze in some of my own songwriting whilst taking part in the above projects. I was very excited to receive a few nods from the Nashville Songwriters’ Association and the Australian Performing Rights Association in 2013 for my new music. I continue to write and I hope to share my new songs with you all soon.
Thanks again for reading and be sure to check out my future blogs for more news in 2014!
